Update on EWTN and Oceanic Cable

Yesterday I posted this reply from Oceanic Cable as to why they cannot bring us EWTN. Today, the west coast rep from EWTN called me and we had a pretty interesting conversation.

It appears that EWTN has been trying for many years to work with Oceanic Cable in bringing their channel to Oahu. Interesting, the Big Island, Maui and Kauai do carry EWTN through the cable company. Now in all fairness, I am not sure if OC is also the cable company on the neighbor islands.

Mr. P (the EWTN rep) also informed me that since EWTN is free, there should be no problem. But that isn't the case here is it? And, that EWTN has spend a lot of money trying to bring EWTN here. Keeping in mind that they rely solely on the support of viewers. Mr. P in fact, has made many trips to all the islands in an attempt to bring EWTN to Hawaii.

So what is the problem? Apparently, Oceanic Cable is not being truthful or forthcoming with the real reasons why after many years, they still will not add EWTN.

As it stands right now, we will have to wait until December 1st when the person in charge of marketing returns Mr. P's telephone call regarding the above.

To all the readers of Hawaii, all I can say is keep calling and emailing OC. Don't give up.

I wonder how much slower DSL is?

Thanks Esther. I emailed Linda W. on FLTV (Catholic Land), awaiting reply... It is strange that Oceanic doesn't have files on that when many of us visited parishes and got more than 50,000 signatures.

Esther,

I truly hope you have success in getting EWTN. Besides the informational, like all the shows involving the Bella creators and Imaculee, and spiritual benefits, it is just encouraging to see in many of the shows, so many others - young and old - truly inspired and joyful because of their Catholic faith. It helps to see such joy and faith particularly since most of the rest of the cable channels are so lacking in both. Good Luck.

Esther,
Dish Network has EWTN on its smallest program package at something like $25 a month. I know DirectV does too although more expensive. You should look into it. We gave up on cable a long time ago... now we have nothing but local, lol. But boy I miss EWTN.

I remember that Easter.

Chris: Thanks. I took EWTN for granted when I lived in NJ but now that we are deprived of it, it makes me appreciate it more and more.

Amy, we cannot have satellite here. The Board decided on cable and cable it is. :-(

Was 'browsing' and noticed that you were having issues with getting EWTN.
As another poster remarked, this channel is available on Dish network however, since your association doesn't want you to have a dish, you will need to have the installer place it on your lanai to a concrete block that they will deliver. If you dont have a lanai then that doesnt necessarily mean you cant get satellite. The government passed a ruling quite a few years ago that allows just about anyone BY LAW to receive satellite signal. e mail me at monsogg@gmail.com if you would like more info. I can answer all your questions there! So not all is lost

You would think that EWTN would be included, even in the most basic channel package. Some interesting articles on this blog: Oceanic Cable
