Lady in Blue

The following reflection is by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen on the Wedding Feast at Cana.

Wedding at Cana
Picture the marriage feast of Cana.

There our blessed Lord is beyond the Jordan, gathering up His first disciples. Mary is already at the feast. The Lord comes with His new disciples, and Mary who always knows our wants before we know them, says, "They have no wine."

They had water, the water of the Old Testament, but they had no wine.

And Jesus replies, "Woman"- not mother- "Woman, what to me is to thee?" That is the way it is in the original. "My hour has not yet come." The hour refers to His passion and death, His combat with evil.

Now He is equivalently saying to His mother, "My dear mother, you want me to begin my public life,
to declare myself the Messiah and the Son of God.
Do you realize that the moment I do that, your relationship to me changes?
You will then no longer be my mother.
You will then be the mother of everyone whom I will redeem.
You will be the universal mother of all mankind.
You will be the woman of Genesis.
You will be the mother of the living."

Mary's heart must have burned at not hearing herself called "mother." So our blessed Lord, it seems, anticipated His public life.

It is not often that mothers send their sons to the battlefield. Mary did. If the Father sent the Son, the mother would send the Son.

The Legionaries of Christ - Ordination

I found this on Deal Hudson's blog

The Ordination of 48 New Priests

I think I was first introduced to the Legionaries of Christ by my mom. She and my sister have invited them over for dinner and great conversation. If you have a chance to have them over, please extend the invitation. From what my mom shared with me, it was just inspiring listening to these young men of God.

Feast Day of San Juan Diego

Juan Diego
I actually made the slide show for the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe this coming Wednesday, but since Saint Juan Diego's feast day gets lost in the Sunday celebrations, I thought I would share it now:

The Beauty of the Holy Mass

H/T to Ma Beck of WardWideWeb

The Holy Mass

Jeff's post on the Ordinary vs. Extraordinary Mass struck a chord with me. But I don't have to write much on this because Jeff has spoken for folks like me:
There have been several of these films celebrating Summorum Pontificum by contrasting clown Masses and other such nonsense with the extraordinary form of the Mass.

While on one level I enjoy the humor of these films there is another level that bothers me. For one I think it is a problem to compare the ordinary and extraordinary forms of the Mass in the Latin rite by taking the worse example and excesses and then to compare them to the Masses celebrated properly in the older form. You don't see examples of the ordinary form being celebrated properly and reverentially as you would for example see on EWTN or in my own parish. There are "Novus Ordo" Masses being celebrated according the the rubrics and in a way that truly helps you to worship God...
With that said, I still want to share the following video with you. Thanks Jeff!

Divine Mercy Sunday

Divine Mercy

Last year, my family and I attended the Divine Mercy Conference. It was at the conference that we were introduced to the beautiful artwork of artist Tommy Canning. He is known for the art of Divine Mercy.

In fact, we met Tommy Canning and his brother who attended the conference. A couple of the items of note that we got at the conference were a DVD of the Divine Mercy artwork set to the music of the Passion of the Christ. The other one was the painting of St. Faustina kneeling before Jesus, the Divine Mercy. That one is autographed by the artist.

The following video showcases some of Mr. Canning's Divine Mercy artwork and I thought it appropriate to post it on this Divine Mercy Sunday 2007. The song is entitled How Beautiful by Ann Wilson.
