The Benefits of Holy Water

holy water
First of all, how do you make Holy Water....you boil the hell out of it. Told to my friend by a priest so I guess it's an okay joke :-)

The following was shared by Sue Cifelli:
Holy water is a sacramental that remits venial sin. Because of the blessing attached to it, Holy Church strongly urges its use upon her children, especially when dangers threaten, such as fire, storms, sickness and other calamities. Every Catholic home should always have a supply of holy water in it.

We do not take advantage of the benefits derived from holy water.

LET US CULTIVATE ITS USE

Untold spiritual wealth is concentrated in a tiny drop of blessed water.

And we give it so little thought!

If we would but realize now, as we shall realize after death, the many benefits which may be derived from holy water, we would use it far more frequently, and with greater faith and reverence. Holy water has its great power and efficacy from the prayers of the Church, which its Divine Founder always accepts with complacency.

We use it on the baby on Sundays. I should get some for the house. When I was a child, we had Holy Water in the house in a wall well(can't think of the name right now!). It hung on the wall with Mary above it.

We have a Holy Water font too but we don't use it because the Holy Water evaporates too quickly.

Hi Esther,

I plan on getting Holy Water when I get to the Church in Falun real soon. I may ask Fr Raphael if he can bring some for us when he comes to bless our home on Thursday next week.

Does it evaporate more quickly than normal water?

Hugs, Heather

I have a little bottle of Holy Water from Lourdes. The Sisters of Carmel gave it to me as a gift. It was very kind of them especially as I dont think your allowed to bring back Holy Water from foreign lands. How silly!

Peace & blessings to you Esther:)

Heather, even if Fr. Raphael forgets, just to bring the Holy Water, he can still bless the water at your home you can have Holy Water.

The Holy Water font I have is very shallow. I think that is the reason why the Holy Water evaporates. I tried putting in a tiny piece of sponge but it didn't help.

That is wonderful Marie. Which reminds me of a story. My cousin who is in the Navy went to Lourdes and brought home a large bottle of Holy Water. One day my aunt, his mom decided to clean his apt. while she was visiting. She found the bottle and thinking it was junk tossed it out! My poor cousin was besides himself!

Jackie, good! You don't want my aunt near your home :-)

Thanks for posting this Esther. Holy Water is a treasure that is seldom used. I keep it on hand always and even carry some in my purse in a little vial. Anyone can brong a container or jar and get some from the Church (not from the fonts but from another place where it is available to take). It is powerful against all evil and should be used often. If it evaporates out of home fonts, just keep replacing it. :)

God bless!
Donna

Donna, thanks for the reminder to carry Holy Water in my purse. I have a little vial that my friend brought back from a CA mission. I think I will do that right now.

When holy water evaporates, is the water vapor that is the result still holy?

EC Gefroh said...

I really don't know but I would guess yes.

Does it have a meaning or reason why it evaporates faster than regular water?

EC Gefroh said...

Well, if it is in a shallow font, it will normally evaporate faster.
