Our Lady of the Rosary

Our Lady of Pompei

Fr. Mark of Vultus Christi has a beautiful post about Our Lady's Rosary O Rosario Benedetto di Maria.

Father also has a very beautiful blog. I have added it to my side bar.

Vatican will drop Eucharistic Prayers for Children

First Communion
The Vatican plans to remove the Eucharistic Prayers for Children from the authorized prayers of the Roman Missal.

Bishop Arthur Serratelli of Paterson, New Jersey, the chairman of the US bishops' liturgy committee, has disclosed the Vatican plans in a letter to the American bishops. He reported that the Congregation for Divine Worship plans "to publish a separate text at a later time."

Patron Saint of Animals

St. Francis icon

One of the reasons St. Francis is one my favorite saints is because he loved all of God's creatures. You cannot begin to imagine how many times I have gone to him and to St. Martin de Porres when one of our pets was in need.

How lovely that more churches, have joined the Catholic Church in turning to St. Francis for pet blessings. Here in Hawaii, the Anglican Church and one of the Episcopalian churches will have their parishioners bring their animals to church for the annual pet blessing. When our parish had a Franciscan priest we had a pet blessing ceremony for the school children's pets also.

St. Francis Reni
St. Francis - Guido Reni

He is one of our beloved and popular saints! In honor of his feast day, I recommend reading The Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi. It can be found online at EWTN Library.

I remember reading this little treasure in my late teens. I had a deep impact on me. I still remember with fondness, the time I read that book.

Wikipedia - Luca Della Robbia
Luca della Robbia (1400-1482) was an Italian sculptor from Florence, noted for his terracotta roundels.

Luca Della Robbia developed a pottery glaze that made his creations more durable in the outdoors and thus suitable for use on the exterior of buildings. His work is noted for its charm rather than the drama of the work of some of his contemporaries.

Andrea Della Robbia - Nephew, pupil, assistant, and sharer of Luca's secrets, b. at Florence, 1431; d. 1528. It is often difficult to distinguish between his works and Luca's.

Desecration Videos Back on YouTube

America Needs Fatima
October 2, 2008

For Immediate Release

For more information, contact – Gary Isbell at 717-309-1990

Host desecration videos originally pulled from YouTube have been reposted. The America Needs Fatima campaign is sickened by this blasphemy and has collected 18,201 signatures on a protest petition in just 7 days.

The 40 separate desecration videos -- originally posted in mid-August -- showed the Host being flushed down a toilet, stomped on and fed to ducks, among other sickening spectacles.

In response to the America Needs Fatima petition, the desecration videos were pulled from YouTube on October 1, but were reposted the same day.

Robert Ritchie, director of America Needs Fatima, explained: “As Catholics, we believe the Host is the body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ. Witnessing the desecration of the Host causes anguish to Catholics all over the world.”

Ritchie added: “In the past, YouTube has removed videos offensive to Jews and members of other religions, including one showing a teenager urinating on a Holocaust memorial. Why can’t Catholics be afforded the same respect for our deeply held beliefs?”

“The desecration of the Host is not an acceptable form of free speech. The only message it conveys is one of unremitting hatred,” Ritchie said.

Modern Guide for Marrying

Tito has a very revealing guide for those of you looking for the right person to marry.

Courting for the 21st Century Catholic
1. Don't marry a woman who likes cats but does not like dogs. You may marry a woman who doesn't like either, or whose reason for not liking dogs is that one of them bit her when she was a toddler. But a woman who likes cats but does not like dogs will be a Joan Crawford or Jane Wyman. Ronald Reagan married Jane Wyman, and look how sorry he was about that...

And for you parents out there, are you praying for your child's future spouse?

Minnesota professor endorses YouTube videos of Eucharistic desecrations

CNA Article
“Get over it,” Myers told outraged Catholics. “As long as people aren't disrupting your services or pilfering chalices, there has been no interference with your religious freedom, and no harm done.”
What do we do? Pray? Get angry at Myers and people like him? Get angry at YouTube and protest and call for a boycott?

Personally, I think this calls for prayers and sacrifice on our part.

Praying for Our Husbands Retreat Starts Tomorrow - October 1st

St. Joseph Carpenter

My friend Mary B is sponsoring a retreat where we are to pray for our husbands. It begins tomorrow. Thank you to Mary because I really wanted to do something like this for my own husband.

Explanation for this retreat can be found here

Now you all remember right? You'll link to your sight and do this right?

You forgot? OK Here goes....

Starting October 1 we are going to pray for our husbands in a special way. Using Scripture we will focus on specific things God has said about Godly men and the tasks he requires of them and the relationship he wants to have with them. I know it is hard to know what to pray for concerning our precious men, but I know I want my sons to have a deep relationship with our Lord. I want my daughters who marry to chose a man with a 'heart for the Lord' because that is a man who will deeply love, not just the woman she is now but the woman God calls her to be.

And it is retreat. While I will still be out and about and responding to comments I will not interrupt with other posts.

Note to Husbands:

You are our Dear gifts from God and, as your help-meet, we want to do what is best for you. We are learning to first change ourselves and grow in holiness. We are learning to depend on the Lord so as not to overburden you. We are learning to love you better, here, where you are now and yet to pray for you and your future.
Pray for us while we work through this retreat. As always when the Lord calls us to pray for someone else--- He is really calling us to be closer to Him, often in a way we have avoided before. Pray that we will be open to his Spirit and grow to love and serve Him more.

Sister Faustina's Confessor Remembered

Fr. Sopocko
Picture source The Lay Institute of Divine Mercy
Benedict XVI remembered the priest who was instrumental in helping St. Faustina Kowalska write her diary and communicate to the world her spiritual experiences.

In greeting Polish pilgrims today after praying the Angelus with the crowds gathered in the courtyard of the papal summer residence of Castel Gandolfo, the Pope turned his thoughts to the faithful gathered in Bialystok, Poland, for the beatification of Father Michal Sopocko, confessor and spiritual director of St. Faustina Kowalska.

Ecuador Needs Our Prayers: Ecuador Approves Constitution with Pro-Abortion, Pro-Homosexual Language

Ecuadorians have approved a new Constitution for their nation that critics say contains pro-abortion and pro-homosexual language, threatens the right of parents to decide their children's education, and delivers excessive power to the presidency (see previous LifeSiteNews coverage at Article here).

The Constitution, which was formulated and approved by the socialist party Alianza PAIS, received approval from between 63.2% and 70% of voters, according to exit polls. Incomplete counts gave the figure of 63%.

The new Constitution will dramatically increase the powers of President Rafael Correa, an admirer of communist revolutionary Che Guevara and close friend and ally of Hugo Chavez.

Saintly Quote - Freedom From Anger

St. John Climacus
The beginning of freedom from anger is silence of the lips when the heart is agitated;
the middle is silence of thoughts when there is disturbance of the soul;
and the end is an imperturbable calm under the breath of unclean winds.

Bishop Soto and the National Association of Catholic Diocesan Lesbian and Gay Ministries

LifeSiteNews' Article
Coadjutor Bishop Jaime Soto of Sacramento shocked his unsuspecting audience at the National Association of Catholic Diocesan Lesbian and Gay Ministries conference with a keynote speech that gently but firmly condemned the homosexual lifestyle as sinful, and celebrated extra-marital chastity, according to the California Catholic Daily.

"Sexual relations between people of the same sex can be alluring for homosexuals," Bishop Soto told the conference, "but it deviates from the true meaning of the act and distracts them from the true nature of love to which God has called us all. For this reason, it is sinful." Bishop Soto also urged Catholics to support Proposition 8, a ballot measure to protect marriage as a sacred covenant between a man and a woman.

At least five people left during the bishop's speech, according to witnesses...
