Do You Know ‘The Biblical Story of the Mass?’

Find Out In EWTN’s Exclusive Fall Series

Irondale, AL (EWTN) – As a Catholic, do you ever wonder why Jesus is referred to as “the lamb of God” or why the “body and blood” of our Lord distributed at communion still look and taste like ordinary bread and wine? If the biblical story of the Mass did not begin at the Last Supper, where did it begin? Answers to these and many more questions will be provided in EWTN’s exclusive new 13-part series, “The Biblical Story of the Mass,” which will air 5 p.m. ET Sundays (with a re-air at 2:30 a.m. ET Fridays), beginning Sept. 5.

If you really want to understand what’s happening at Mass, why the priest and people have distinct liturgical roles, why the Eucharist is the best path to a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the Trinity – and a whole lot more -- tune into this challenging new series.

Hosted by EWTN Theologian Tom Nash and Fr. Wade Menezes, this lively, conversational program is partially based on Nash’s book, “Worthy is the Lamb: The Biblical Roots of the Mass,” Nash is also co-author of “Catholic for a Reason III: Scripture and the Mystery of the Mass,” Fr. Wade Menezes is the well-known host of numerous EWTN series, including “The Ten Commandments of Catholic Family Life,”, and “Gospel of Life vs. Culture of Death,”,

“When St. Paul mentions the Lord’s Supper, most Protestant Christians view the ritual as simply a symbolic meal, which recalls Christ’s redemptive work that they believe began and ended on the Cross,” says Nash. “Wouldn’t you like to be able to defend the Catholic belief with biblical and historical evidence?”

Tune in this fall and learn what really happens on the altar each Sunday!

Archbishop Hannan: The Archbishop and the Concentration Camp

When EWTN first came on the air, there were a few Catholic personalities that I became familiar with and one of them was Archbishop Hannan. He had a show with a young Catholic woman, whose name I have long forgotten.

Anyway, please check out this very interesting post by by Donald over at American Catholic. Archbishop Hannan's story is truly worth listening to.

The saints who live among us

NEW BEDFORD — Trappist monk and author Thomas Merton wrote, "Oh my God! You see what a barren and desolate place this world is —- send us saints!"

The answer to his prayers, our city is blessed by the good works of saints.

Walk along our streets, and you'll see Mother Teresa's nuns in their white and striped-blue habits, ministering in our neighborhoods.

Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta sent her order, the Missionaries of Charity, to New Bedford, and on June 14, 1995, she visited the city, worshipped at the Church of St. Lawrence Martyr and touched the lives of countless SouthCoast residents.

Exclusive interview with Padre Pio's translator

Three pieces of dried blood from St Pio of Pietrelcina’s 50-year stigmata and one of the mittens the saint used to cover his stigmata arrived in Perth on 4 August in the care of a priest who was among the few people to be close on a daily basis to one of the greatest mystics of the Church.

Fr Ermelindo, who was ordained a Capuchin friar in 1958, brought the relics to Perth, the first stop of his tour around Australia and New Zealand from 6 August - 5 September.

Mel Gibson and the Cleverness of Satan: “It is the Reality

St. Padre Pio was reported to have said when he got his first look at the television: “The devil will be in the living room.”

He is also manifestly a “live in” companion in the lives of many including some of our self- destructive celebrities.

How else to explain the recent behavior of our fallen brother in Christ, Mel Gibson?

Rosary Crusade for the Fifth Marian Dogma

August 15, 2010 – August 15, 2011

At times of grave crisis for the Church and for the world, Rosary crusades have changed the course of human history.

From the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 which saved Catholic faith and culture in Europe, to the Philippine Revolution in 1986, which prevented the potential slaughter of great numbers of Catholic faithful, the power of the Rosary prayed in unity can truly bring forth historic fruit for the Church and for humanity. From Leo XIII to Benedict XVI, the popes of the last two centuries have exhorted the faithful to daily pray the Rosary for the serious needs of humanity.

The present state of extraordinary crisis for the Church and for the world is universally known: unprecedented attacks on the Church externally and internally, and specifically on the Papacy; military conflict and/or terrorism on every continent; moral and family breakdown in unparalleled proportions; millions dying of hunger and starvation; natural disasters in unmatched numbers; Communist and militant regimes persecuting Christians and other religious traditions; unique environmental disasters; and over 40 million abortions annually.

But where there is great darkness, there are also the shadows of the great light which is approaching. The infinitely merciful Jesus seeks to renew the earth through a new descent of the Holy Spirit, as brought forth through our spiritual mother. The ultimate remedy for our global state of emergency is direct intercession from Heaven. We urgently need Our Blessed Mother, who brings us the graces of the Son and the renewal of the Spirit.

It is for this reason that we now initiate a year-long Rosary crusade for the fifth Marian Dogma - - that the Holy Father will solemnly define that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the Spiritual Mother of All Peoples as the Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix of all graces and Advocate.

Although Mary’s Spiritual Motherhood of all humanity is already the official teachings of the Church’s Magisterium, the solemn definition of this truth by our beloved Pope Benedict XVI will allow Our Lady to exercise fully and in an unprecedented manner her God-given intercessory powers for her human children in our present state of severe global crisis.

Our Mother’s titles of Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix of all graces and Advocate are her functions for humanity. When they are solemnly defined by the Roman Pontiff, the bearer of the Keys of the Kingdom (cf. Mt. 16:15-20), then and only then will the Co-redemptrix and Mediatrix of all graces intercede for the historic graces of redemption and peace promised at places like Fatima, which will in turn definitively initiate the Triumph of her most Immaculate Heart and an eventual “era of peace” (cf. July 13, 1917 Fatima message).

We therefore humbly beg you, in Our Lady’s name, to join us in this worldwide Rosary crusade for the fifth Marian Dogma, which begins on August 15, 2010, the anniversary of the most recently proclaimed Marian dogma of Our Lady’s Assumption. We ask you to persevere with us throughout the year in daily praying the Rosary for this fifth and final Marian Dogma. Through this Rosary Crusade, we earnestly pray that our beloved Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, will soon proclaim that the Immaculate Virgin Mary is truly the Spiritual Mother of all humanity, as a gift given to us all by our Crucified Savior from the cross, “Behold, your mother” (Jn. 19:27).

Along with the daily Rosary, we also encourage you to pray daily the Prayer of the Lady of All Nations, given by Our Lady for the proclamation of the fifth Dogma in the ecclesiastically approved apparitions in Amsterdam (local approval, May 31, 2002). You may also add the prayer below for the fifth Marian Dogma.

Lady of All Nations Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Father, send now your Spirit over the earth.

Let the Holy Spirit live in the hearts of all nations, that they may be preserved from degeneration, disasters, and war.

May the Lady of all nations, the Blessed Virgin Mary, be our Advocate.

Prayer for the Fifth Marian Dogma

Lord Jesus, grant that the world may know, through the solemn proclamation of your papal Vicar on earth, that your Mother is truly our Mother, the spiritual Mother of all peoples.

May Mary Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix of all graces, and Advocate intercede for true peace for the world, and thus establish the Triumph of her most Immaculate Heart.

May the Holy Spirit, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, enflame the earth with a New Pentecost, leading to a new springtime of life and love for the Church and for the world.
