Female Author Writes Book For Boys About Becoming Men? Author To be Interviewed on CatholicTV

BOSTON- On June 15th, Cheryl Dickow co-author of “All Things Guy”, a book which aims to teach boys aged 9 to 13 to become “Men Who Matter”, will be interviewed on the live CatholicTV talk show “This is the Day”.

All Things Guy discusses the dignity of the person, relationships (family, friends, bullies, girls), virtues, vocations, puberty, the importance of knowing history, a prayer plan and examples of strong Catholic men today.

Catholic writer and speaker Lisa Hendey wrote of the book, “All Things Guy: A Guide to Becoming a Man that Matters is chock full of great content presented in a fashion that will appeal to boys. Mixed in with the messages on dignity, virtues, and becoming a “Man that Matters” are mazes, puzzles, games and activities that drive home the authors’ points. I particularly enjoyed the “Media and Men that Matter” and “Know Your History” chapters. The book is aimed at readers ages nine through 13, but could be read to younger boys under adult supervision and will also be enjoyed by older boys due to the depth of the content included.”

Cheryl Dickow is a Catholic wife, mother, author, speaker and publisher. She is a columnist with work appearing on several sites including Catholic Exchange, National Catholic Register and Catholic.net. She has a Master’s Degree in Education and lives in the beautiful state of Michigan.

BOSTON- On June 4th, Bishop Thomas Tobin will appear in an interview on the live CatholicTV talk show "This is the Day". Bishop Tobin will discuss his new book "Effective Faith" and the ideas and spirituality within the book.

Katherine Haas of Catholic News Agency said of Tobin's book, "Effective Faith isn't a bombshell to the faithful, or even to the once-faithful or the not-so-faithful. Instead, it's a nuts and bolts approach to being a Catholic.

Bishop Tobin isn't trying to scare his readers into going back to church. He's not leaving a trail of cake crumbs leading towards heaven either. What each of his columns does is give a basic explanation of the Church's teaching on a particular issue or a personal insight into daily life from the eyes of a real, live Catholic bishop."

In an excerpt from the book, Tobin suggests that if you are faced with a dilemma where faith and work collide, "Quit your job and save your soul," he advises.

The book is broken into four sections — "Everyday Faith," "Faith and My Life," "Faith Through the Seasons" and "Faith Through the Life of the Church."

John Franko, a writer with the Pittsburgh Catholic, wrote "One of his trademarks is that he does not shy away from tackling controversial subjects. The book offers reflections on "Abortion," "Civil Rights and Human Life," "Why ‘Gay Marriage' Is Wrong," "Racism: It's Bigger Than Imus," "Catholic Preaching: Powerful or Pitiful?" and "When Preachers Fall from Grace."

In the book's foreword, Cardinal Seán O'Malley of Boston praised Bishop Tobin for his skill in providing an accessible and effective means of sharing the faith through his columns."

Bishop Thomas Tobin is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bishop Tobin was named Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh and Titular Bishop of Novica by Pope John Paul II on November 3, 1992. He was ordained to the Episcopacy on December 27, 1992. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin was installed as the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown, on February 2, 1996.

Bishop Tobin was named eighth Bishop of Providence by Pope John Paul II on March 31, 2005

Navy Chaplain Father Ron Moses Camarda's book / diary TEAR IN THE DESERT, about his journey into the harsh reality of the Iraq War in 2004, soon to be a motion picture.

Film & TV Producer Christian Peschken recently obtained the exclusive film rights of Fr. Ron Moses Camarda's book / diary "TEAR IN THE DESERT"

Father Ron Camarda, a Roman Catholic Priest, was recalled to Active Duty to serve with the Marines during the Battle for Fallujah, Iraq (2004). At Bravo Surgical (Marine equivalent to a M.A.S.H. unit) he received over 1500 casualties and 81 deaths. When he returned home he found his work was not done. Walking with the widows and families left behind has been filled with great love and compassion. This is a walk with God into the war in the desert, only to find that the real war is within the human heart.

In his book "TEAR IN THE DESERT" Fr. Ron documents the touching and horrific events that he encountered on a daily basis.

"This story needs to be told. Now is the right time. Not only did Fr. Ron make a difference in the soldier's life, but also in the life of their relatives. Fr. Ron is a typical anti hero, a quiet hero. His story is perfect for a movie with a strong message, namely, and I quote Pope John Paul II, "War is a defeat for Humanity", says producer Christian Peschken. "I see this film along the lines of "Midnight Express", and hope to have a similar success. We have interest from domestic and international distributors already. I chose to shoot the film in South Africa.

Not only because of the incentives that will cover almost 30% of the budget , but also because of the great variety of locations that match Iraq", says Peschken.
At this time the producer seeks private investors to fund the film, to be shot in 2010 in South Africa, Florida, and Las Vegas, NV.

DEVELOPMENT IN THE SEELOS CANONIZATION CAUSE

It is with great delight and glory to God, that Most Reverend Edwin F. O’Brien, Archbishop of Baltimore, has confirmed the date of May 19, 2009, to celebrate the Opening Session in the Diocesan Inquiry into an alleged healing through the intercession of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, C.Ss.R. The results of this investigation will be sent to the Congregation of the Causes of the Saints in Rome for their consideration. If this healing is miraculous, it may lead to the canonization of Blessed Seelos.

The Opening Session of the Diocesan Inquiry will be celebrated with a special Mass at 12:10 p.m. in the historic Basilica of the Baltimore Archdiocese ( 409 Cathedral Street, Baltimore MD 21201 ).

The Archdiocese of Baltimore will then begin the depositions of key witnesses – including that of a daily Communicant from St. Mary’s (Redemptorist) Church, Annapolis , who attributes her healing of metastasized esophageal cancer through Father Seelos’ intercession.

In 1844, Father Seelos was ordained in Baltimore . He ministered at St. Alphonsus in Baltimore, Saints Peter and Paul in Cumberland and at St. Mary's in Annapolis . In Cumberland and in Annapolis , he also served as prefect of Redemptorist seminarians. He distinguished himself in this position by his constant availability to the students in their needs, by his unfailing joyfulness even in very difficult circumstances, and by his careful concern that the students learn solid Catholic doctrine. Above all, he sought to instill in the students a great enthusiasm for untiring self-sacrifice in promoting the spiritual and temporal well-being of the people they would be called upon to serve. He contracted yellow fever in New Orleans while ministering to the stricken. He died on October 4, 1867. He was beatified by His Holiness Pope John Paul II in Rome on April 9, 2000. He was the only North American to be beatified in the solemn Jubilee Year.
