On Priests: Remember the Saying...

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

The following is from a prayer card.

If the priest is a saint, his people will be holy.
If the priest is holy, his people will be good.
If the priest is good, his people will be fair.
If the priest is fair, his people will be mediocre.
If the priest is mediocre, his people will be bad.

Pray for your priest.
According to Adoro, this quote is by St. Jean M. Vianney. Thank you!

He who honors a priest, honors Christ.
He who insults a priest, insults Christ.
- St. John Chrysostom

If I saw an angel and a priest,
I would bend my knee;
first to the priest, then to the angel.

- St. Francis of Assisi

The 1st quote "If your priest is holy..." is from St. John Vianney, unless I'm mistaken. (Always a possibility, even probability) ;-) But...I do believe it is St. John Vianney.

Esther, thank you so much for this! The quotes are great, and of course, this is a topic close to my heart. I don't know if I ever told you, but when my plans for starting a Spiritual Motherhood Apostolate here in Milwaukee failed, I began the Monthly Prayer Request for Priests instead. It's been going so well ever since September with much interest in praying for priests. My daughter Mary helped me choose a quote for the Apostolate-"There are no bad priests, only priests for whom not enough prayer has been offered." ~St. John Vianney

God bless you and thank you for all of the good you do! You are an inspiration to me!
