Prayer for the Conclave

From World Priest Day

Heavenly Father, We the People of God, gathered in solidarity as did the disciples in the Upper Room, pray for the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the cardinals who will be in conclave for the election of the next Vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

May the hearts of our cardinals be open to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, beyond human judgment, to elect the candidate most pleasing to you, Heavenly Father, and who will guide the Church at this momentous time in history at the beginning of the Third Millennium.

We invoke our Mother Mary, we entrust this conclave to her maternal and Immaculate Heart, and offer this prayer for her guidance and protection over the choosing of the next Vicar of her Son.

Amen

----------

I hope by now you have adopted a cardinal to pray for specifically. My cardinal is Claudio Cardinal Hummes, OFM of Brazil. There is still time to Adopt a cardinal.

Friday Fast for the Defense of Marriage

The following is from Catholic World News:

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has asked Catholics to offer their fasting and abstinence from meat on March 1 “for the justices of the Supreme Court, that when they consider two marriage-related cases later this month, they would uphold the authentic meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman, a good in itself and for all of society.”
“Beginning this month, the Supreme Court will consider two marriage-related cases: United States v. Windsor, about the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and Hollingsworth v. Perry, about California’s Proposition 8,” a USCCB flyer explains, adding:
Depending on how the Court rules, there could be ramifications for marriage laws throughout the country. Oral arguments for the cases begin March 26, the same day as a March for Marriage to show support for upholding the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. A ruling on both cases is expected from the court by June.
The USCCB has asked Catholics to fast and abstain from meat on all Fridays until the conclusion of the Year of Faith; abstinence is obligatory on Fridays of Lent.

The following is from the USCCB.

Intention:
For the justices of the Supreme Court, that when they consider two marriage-related cases later this month, they would uphold the authentic meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman, a good in
itself and for all of society.

Special Prayer for Pope Benedict XVI

The Cardinal Newman Society's chaplain prepared the following prayer for Pope Benedict XVI. We are thankful for the Pope's ministry and ask God that he may be blessed in retirement. We encourage all Cardinal Newman Society members and others to join us in praying for Pope Benedict XVI.

Almighty God and Father,
Who have revealed Yourself through Your Eternal Word,
and have blessed Your Church with Pope Benedict XVI,
our teacher in both faith and reason;
receive our prayers of thanksgiving
for his witness to the beauty of truth,
for his example of hopefulness,
for his humble service of Christ's Bride.

As he blessed our apostolate in his care for the Church's teaching office, so now may he receive the benefit of our prayers.

Grant him, in his time of retirement, the reward of study and prayer as he continues to seek, find, and love you in truth.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Teenage Venerable Proposed as Model for Lent

Blog Offers Daily Quote From Faustino Pérez-Manglano
ROME, February 19, 2013 (Zenit.org) - In this Lent just now beginning, the Society of Mary (Marianists) are presenting the figure of the Venerable Faustino Pérez-Manglano Magro, a young Spaniard who died in 1963. He was a student at the Colegio Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Valencia and can be presented as a model of holiness for youth.
The principal means for this project will be a new blog dedicated to Faustino (in four languages), opened for this occasion and remaining active even beyond the celebrations. Each day of Lent a passage from the Gospel of the day, a quotation from Faustino and a meditation by Father José María Salaverri are offered, along with an image adapted to a teenage public.
The participants will be able to publish their reactions on the blog or on the Facebook social network and dialog among themselves. They can also follow with Twitter.
The Society of Mary hopes that this initiative will contribute to the evangelization of today’s young people and to making better known this gift that God has made to the Marianist Family and to the Church in the person of Venerable Faustino.

Recommended Pro-Life Movie

Also posted at the Aloha Life Advocates blog.

Meant to Be is a fairly new movie with a strong pro-life message. It was produced by Christian PureFlix Production Company.  This movie is currently available via streaming on Netflix.

We're proud to announce the release of our new pro-life movie Meant to Be starring Dean Cain, Della Reese, Erika Eleniak, and Bradley Dorsey. We're particularly excited about this release with the immense opportunity and platform to speak Christ's love into the lives of thousands of women making important decisions about their pregnancies and the value of their own life. The movie deals with a dramatic story of writer Nathan Burr (Bradley Dorsey) who is in search of his birth mother after being raised in a foster home. It also intertwines with the story of a young pregnant girl named Tori (Erin Sossoman) who is dealing with the thoughts of abortion as she struggles to find any value in herself and her unborn babies life.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." -Romans 8:28
