Fr. Patrick Peyton - The Rosary

Our Lady
Holy Cross Family Ministries

"Two years before my ordination, I was stricken with a severe attack of tuberculosis. In that infirmary, I reached the depths of discouragement and hopelessness. But it was there too that I really found Mary. In my darkest hour, I tuned to her for help. She responded with love. I recovered, returned to the seminary and was ordained."

"Thanks to the family that always prayed the Rosary, I had come to know who Mary was and that Jesus Christ, her Son, had entrusted me to her love and care. I asked her with all my heart and soul to pray to her Son for my cure."

In 1945, the Mutual Broadcasting System, the largest radio network in the United States at that time, made available a half-hour to broadcast the Rosary. This was the opportunity of a lifetime. The program had to be good. It had to prove the Rosary for all its worth. To whom could I turn for help? Naturally, to Our Lady. She came through:
Invite the most famous, loved and revered family to pray the Rosary;
Ask the most famous Hollywood stars to join them;
Have the most influential people in the US Church speak; and
Choose the most fitting day to have the majority of Americans listening eagerly to a religious broadcast.
All of that happened:
The day was Sunday, May 13, 1945: Mother's Day, Fatima Day and a day of thanksgiving for victory in Europe.
Cardinal Spellman of New York was lined up to speak.
The Sullivan family of Iowa, whose five sons had gone to their death together on a battleship that sank in the Pacific, led the Rosary.
Bing Crosby agreed to participate.

The following day, the broadcast was acclaimed as the most touching program of all, and the Family Rosary Crusade was launched. What Bing Crosby did, others would do. Hundreds of them, Pat O'Brien, Loretta Young, Grace Kelly, James Cagney, gave their names, fame, time and talent to glorify the Rosary and dramatize its mysteries on film, on the radio and on television.

Archbishop Chaput - "Little Murders"

In an address delivered on October 17, Archbishop Charles J. Chaput stated that ''Prof. Douglas Kmiec has a strong record of service to the Church and the nation in his past. But I think his activism for Senator Barack Obama, and the work of Democratic-friendly groups like Catholics United and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, have done a disservice to the Church, confused the natural priorities of Catholic social teaching, undermined the progress pro-lifers have made, and provided an excuse for some Catholics to abandon the abortion issue instead of fighting within their parties and at the ballot box to protect the unborn...''

Comments on Susan G. Komen Foundation's Donations

Unborn
I received an anonymous comment to the following Race for the Cure - Supporters of Planned Parenthood. Since the tone of the comment was angry I didn't approve it. Instead, I forwarded it to my husband and son. My son said I should response to it. But I think he did a fine job of doing that for me.

First the comment:
"shame on you. shame shame shame. I am also a cancer survivor. My sister has had breast cancer. It has almost killed an old girl friend, destroying her life. It has struck many dear friends. We do not have a hissy fit about fighting evil.

MAY YOU FIND PEACE ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THAT WE MUST KILL THIS THING THAT SPREADS TERROR AND DEATH AMONG WOMEN. ENABLING IT BECAUSE SOME OF ITS OPPONENTS ARE NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT, WELL I WILL PRAY FOR YOU"
My son's response:
Hi Mommy.

Saving the lives of babies is not an issue of political correctness. It is a moral responsibility for everyone. We have no problem with donating money to support cures for cancer as long as our money does not go to help the killing of innocents. It is absolutely twisted that the money we donate to save lives is being used to end them. Abortions result in a dead baby and causes a host of problems, physical and psychological, for the mother. The money we donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help women ends up hurting them.

This can be a response to this comment. Please correct it for factual errors and add your own touch to it.

I love you.
Love,
Joey.

I am happy that my teen son gets it.

40 Days for Life, Rosary Procession and Planned Parenthood

On Saturday October 13th, Catholic from all over the State joined the country in praying the Rosary publicly. One such public Rosary was prayed in front of the Honolulu Planned Parenthood.

Silent Prayer and Protest

Pray to End Abortion
As you can see from the photos, the participants were respectful, quiet, and prayerful. That did not stop an employee of Planned Parenthood to come out and instruct us not to block the sidewalk... which was not blocked. She did not stop at that. She actually called the police to complain.

The police officer saw for himself that no sidewalk was blocked and soon after left.

If you read 40 Days National Campaign Director David Bereit's blog yesterday, you read about the ploy by Planned Parenthood to put fear in the 40 Days participants in making them think they are actually helping Planned Parenthood raise money.

Within days of the start of 40 Days for Life the Planned Parenthood in Honolulu greeted us, with a poster stating how much money our protest was making for them. As of yesterday, the amount of $4250.00. Now, the participants here were pretty sure this number could not possible be true. And, now I am sure of it.

So, if you are a 40 Days participant who is afraid you are earning Planned Parenthood money by your participation, please read David's blog post and as Pope John Paul II often reminded us "Be Not Afraid".

Saintly Quote - Forgiveness

St. Faustina
He who knows how to forgive prepares for himself many graces from God.
As often as I look upon the cross, so often will I forgive with all my heart.

Saintly Writings - The Man Filled With the Holy Spirit

Angel

The man who is filled with the Holy Spirit speaks in different languages.

These different languages are different ways of witnessing to Christ, such as humility, poverty, patience and obedience; we speak in those languages when we reveal in ourselves these virtues to others.

Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak. We are full of words but empty of actions, and therefore are cursed by the Lord, since he himself cursed the fig tree when He found not fruit but only leaves.

We should speak, then, as the Holy Spirit gives us the gift of speech. Our humble and sincere request to the Spirit for ourselves should be that we may bring the day of Pentecost to fulfillment, insofar as He infuses us with His grace, by using our bodily senses in a perfect manner and by keeping the commandments.

Likewise, we should request that we may be filled with a keen sense of sorrow and with fiery tongues for confessing the faith, so that our deserved reward may be to stand in the blazing splendor of the saints and to look upon the triune God.

Financial Advice - Trust. Pray, hope, and don't worry

DEVOUT MONEY MANAGER WARNS OF FUTURE IN STARK TERMS AND OFFERS A 'SAFE HAVEN'
It was years ago, in 1999, that a devout Catholic investment expert began telling his clients -- for whom he managed $100 million in equities -- to start getting out of stocks: that there would be a long-term downturn like the 1920s and 1930s.

Researching historic cycles, Peter Bruno (a multi-millionaire himself), who owns Wall Street Money Management Group in Boca Raton, Florida, saw the market topping soon -- and then plummeting.

One reason: like the 1920s, there was a boom in technology stocks (back then it was radio, agricultural inventions, canned food, household appliances, and automobiles), and like the time period, it was going to go bust, he feared -- which it did...
