It's important to remember that every approved message from Our Lady gave the possibility of the course of events being changed through prayer. A lot has changed in the Church since that was said, in 1973. Hard to say how much it applies today.
Unfortunately, the devil is still in the Church. Look at what is going on with the Pope trying to free the use of the TLM.
On a smaller scale, I'm seeing this at my parish (which I once thought was orthodox).
Jackie, I didn't realize until reading the book that the message at Akita was the same as the Fatima messages.

Lynne, I think things are getting better but I do believe the devil is still involved to some extent.
