WOULD YOU PLEDGE SOME PRAYERS FOR AN INCREASE OF VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD, DIACONATE, AND CONSECRATED LIFE?

From the desk of Bishop Larry Silva:
Father Peter Dumag, the Director of Vocations of the Diocese of Honolulu, has put out a call to all Catholics to a special way of promoting vocations. On Presidents’ Day, February 16, 2009, I will participate in the Great Aloha Run, a course of 8+ miles from the Aloha Tower to the Aloha Stadium. (Since my bad knees would loudly protest the high impact of running, I will be walking the course.)

  1. It seems to be a growing problem, Esther, and prayers and vigils are held here in Ireland for an increase in vocations - and Ireland has had or is soon to have its first intake of deacon candidates.
There are plenty of ordained deacons in England but this will be something new and encouraging here.
So rich a harvest, so few to labour.

  2. I will be! Just found out my cousin Stevie applied for seminary! I knew one of those boys would be a priest!

  3. Ann, I may be wrong but I do see an increase in vocation and interest in the priesthood and religious life. I think it has to do with the trend to more conservative and orthodox Catholicism.

    Mary, that is terrific news!!

  5. Esther, I was wrong - oh happy fault!Just a few minutes ago I picked up the local paper the Irish News which carries the story and photograph of the ordination of an Archdiocese of Armagh deacon!

We're not as behind as I thought afterall - at least some dioceses are moving in the right direction.
The Dominicans are one of the few orders in Ireland and UK that have reported a rise in number of applicants - so hopefully where they go others will follow.
