Stories of Injustices Done to Catholic Priests

Priest Collar
Through a post in today's Inside Catholic I found the sad story of two priests in the Arlington Diocese. Washington Times article

Every priest in the Diocese of Arlington knows of Father James Haley. And the Rev. Joseph Clark.

What both priests have in common is that their careers have been destroyed by one man - Arlington Bishop Paul Loverde.
I wanted to be fair and get the whole story so I did a little internet search on Bishop Loverde. I didn't really find anything else on Bishop Loverde other than he is still the bishop of Arlington. However, I happened upon an article at Catholic Culture regarding another Catholic priest who went through a difficult time with his bishop. The bishop during this time was Bishop Harry Flynn of the Diocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis. The bishop now is Bishop John C. Nienstedt. The priest in this case was well respected Father Robert Altier. Many of you may be familiar with his Examination of Conscience available through Leaflet Missal.

It is very hard not to jump to conclusions or to judge these two bishops. However, as hard as it is, that is what we need to do. The reason I am posting these stories here is so that those of you who read this will remember to pray for these priests and also for the bishops.
“...I’m the president of the Catholic Media Coalition (www.catholicmediacoalition.org) and we have started a fund to defend persecuted priests. We are presently focusing on Fr. Clark’s situation, but I’m also in touch with other orthodox persecuted priests who may need help...
Mary Ann Kreitzer, the Arlington, Va., mother and editor of the lay publication Les Femmes: The Women of Truth and founder of the Catholic Media Coalition

It is a relief to know that Catholic Media Coalition have a fund to help defend persecuted priests.

Remember to pray for our priests.

Note: I was pretty sure I had posted about Fr. Altier's problems earlier. What I found was an earlier article by Ms. Kreitzer which I posted in 2006. I forgot all about it until today. you can read it here

This is very sad:(. You will often find that Priests who are inline with the Teachings of the Catholic Church and who have a devotion to Our Lady are persecuted.

Little persecutions who though they will not kill the person, instead try to kill the spirit of the faithful Catholic.

I know one Priest here who is a wonderful Priest and has a great devotion to Our Lady and yet even his parishioners do not shake his hand after Mass! They walk straight past him. Fr. Francis is not invited to social gatherings. What was his offense? He told his flock that missing Mass on the weekend in order to either go to football or watch it on TV was a sin!..He also told them that their 'god' was football and NOT The Triune Spirit.

Fr. Francis spoke the Truth to them but they never forgave him, nor the fact that he is Vietnamese and yet he is a wonderful son of the Church. We MUST PRAY much for our faithful Priests and Religious.

Thankyou for this thought provoking piece Esther:).

Peace & much love to you

The "sifting by Satan" that Jesus promised St. Peter is now in full bloom in the Roman Catholic Church. It is a "testing" of all the faithful that purifies those destined for eternal glory. Nothing new here. Please pray for the Church.
